ASSESSMENTS

On this page, you’ll learn about home and block risk assessment opportunities for Serrano homeowners—both free and conducted by resident assessors trained by the El Dorado Hills Fire Department and the CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit.

What to Expect from a Home Assessment

A trained assessor will walk your property with you and will:

  • Explain how wind-blown embers could ignite your home

  • Identify practical, proven steps to reduce ignition risk, based on fire-science research and post-wildfire damage studies

  • Provide a list of qualified contractors, if requested

  • Clarify when and how to coordinate with the HOA before making changes

After the visit, you’ll receive a CAL FIRE Home Assessment checklist summarizing your home’s vulnerabilities and our recommendations.

What to Expect from a Block Assessment

A burning house becomes a powerful generator of embers, flames, and radiant heat that can ignite the next house downwind.

A trained assessor walks the block with neighbors and will:

  • Explain how wind-blown embers can ignite homes along streetscapes

  • Explain how a fence fire can spread fire from house to house across the block

  • Explain how a single burning home can ignite other homes downwind

  • Identify practical, proven steps to reduce the risk of block-wide ignition, based on fire-science research and post-urban-conflagration analysis

  • Provide a list of qualified contractors, if requested

  • Clarify when and how to coordinate with the HOA before making changes

After the visit, you’ll receive a Fire Safe Serrano Assessment of your block’s vulnerabilities and our recommendations.
